Set on the banks of the River Thames in the picturesque and quaint village of Sonning, the Great House offers couples an intimate space for a country wedding. Surrounded by wonderfully maintained gardens, the grounds reach right down the to the river, so couples could choose to take a romantic boat trip or perhaps entertain their guests on a cruise during the days celebrations.
The house itself has a long and impressive history and is licensed for civil ceremonies for up to 120 guests. Once the couple are married the celebrations can continue in the private gardens surrounded with romantic views and stunning scenery perfect for any wedding video!
The wedding breakfast is usually held in The Dining Room, which can hold up to 200 friends and family for a delicious dinner. With it’s own private terrace overlooking the river, it’s a lovely space for couples to enjoy their first meal together.
This venue is perfect for couples looking for a historic, country house with contemporary styling set against one of the best views in the area.

One of the things that makes The Great House at Sonning particularly enjoyable to film is the way the wedding can begin before the ceremony itself. With accommodation on site, there is the opportunity to capture the quieter preparations as the day starts, from the excitement of getting ready through to those first moments with family and friends. The venue's Bridal Suite and characterful bedrooms provide a natural starting point for the story of the day.

There are also some wonderfully memorable ways for couples to make an entrance. The Great House is right on the River Thames and the venue specifically welcomes couples who want to arrive by boat. For a wedding film, that creates a very different opening to the day and a chance to capture the arrival from both the riverside and among the waiting guests.

The Lodge gives the wedding another change of atmosphere, with its natural light, private terrace and views towards the river and lawns. The combination of indoor and outdoor spaces means there are plenty of opportunities to capture the smaller interactions between the bigger moments, whether that is guests enjoying drinks outside, a quiet conversation between family members or the couple taking a few minutes together away from the celebrations.
